Experience
Cian joined Grant Thornton in 2003 as Director and became Partner in 2007. During that period he established the firm’s Business Risk Services department and developed service offerings including internal audit, IT audit and technology risk management, governance, compliance and internal control consulting, and IT consulting.

Cian started his professional services career in a Dublin-based accounting firm. After qualifying as a Chartered Accountant, he joined Accenture as a management consultant. During the five years he spent there, Cian completed a broad range of consulting assignments, including strategic consulting, IT consulting, systems implementation, and project management. He specialised in working with the retail and technology sectors, including assignments in the UK, Asia and South Africa.

Sector experience
Cian has successfully led and delivered numerous governance, risk and compliance projects including:

  • compliance projects including multi-year Sarbanes-Oxley Act compliance initiatives;
  • risk management advisory services including enterprise-wide risk process reviews;
  • the delivery of outsourced and co-sourced internal audit functions to some of the firm’s largest clients;
  • SAS 70 assurance reports for technology and financial services companies;
  • IT strategy reviews covering financial and operational applications, and infrastructure;
  • project management of strategic and systems implementation assignments;
  • extensive information systems audits and control reviews for internal and external audit clients.

Professional qualifications, memberships and affiliations
Cian is a qualified Chartered Accountant (FCA), a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) and a Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA). He is a committee member of the Irish District Society of the Institute of Internal Auditors. He holds a Bachelor of Civil Law (BCL) degree from University College Dublin, and is a graduate of the Diploma in Corporate Governance at UCD’s Smurfit Graduate Business School, where he now lectures on a part-time basis.
